The BC Jindal Group announced plans to develop five GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Through its arm, Jindal India Renewable Energy, the group will invest ₹21,500 crore over the next five years, focusing on clean energy solutions to meet India’s rising power demand while ensuring grid stability through battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Diverse Portfolio of Green Projects
Jindal aims to achieve its target through a combination of solar, wind, hybrid, and firm-dispatchable renewable projects. Emphasizing a balanced energy mix, the company is betting on both generation and storage capabilities to provide round-the-clock green energy.
Strategic Expansion and Manufacturing Backward Integration
To support its aggressive growth, the brand is expanding its renewable energy asset base across India. The expansion—set to complete within four years—will be financed through internal accruals and debt. The company is also pursuing technology collaborations for battery manufacturing. It is simultaneously planning backward integration into the production of key components such as solar cells and modules, according to a group spokesperson.
Securing Large-Scale Projects and Manufacturing Milestones
Recently, Jindal received a letter of acceptance from NHPC for a 300 MW solar plus storage project, under NHPC’s 1,200 MW interstate solar initiative. The project also involves 600 MW/1200 MWh of energy storage, underscoring JIRE’s capability in executing complex and large-scale renewable ventures. In addition, JIRE is setting up a 2 GW solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Maharashtra, expected to go live by September 2026.
Riding the Battery Storage Boom
India’s rapidly growing renewable energy ambitions are driving the critical role of battery storage. Thehindubusinessline.com reports that the Indian BESS market will grow at an 11% CAGR through 2032, fueled by the demand for reliable and dispatchable green energy. JIRE integrates BESS into its strategy, demonstrating its commitment to delivering efficient and stable power solutions.
