Marubeni Corporation has signed its first long-term offtake agreement for green ammonia with Envision Energy Co., Ltd., a global leader in green technology. The agreement covers the supply of green ammonia produced in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, using renewable wind energy.
Building a Strategic Position in the Green Ammonia Market
Under the agreement, Marubeni will secure a designated volume of green ammonia on a long-term basis and supply it to global clients. The deal positions Marubeni to become a key player in the emerging green ammonia market. The company will focus on sales and marketing to the industrial and energy sectors.
The company aims to leverage this partnership to strengthen its supply chain. It also seeks to drive the adoption of green ammonia as a low-carbon energy source and feedstock for industries such as chemicals and fertilizers.
Envision’s Pioneering Production Facility in Inner Mongolia
Envision will begin trial production in 2024 at its green ammonia plant in Inner Mongolia, using only wind-generated electricity. It expects to start commercial operations by late 2025. With an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons, the facility aims to become the world’s first large-scale green ammonia production plant.
Supporting Decarbonization Across Industries
Unlike conventional ammonia, green ammonia is produced without emitting CO₂, making it an attractive option for industries seeking to lower their carbon footprint. It can be used as:
