In a major move to meet the growing global demand for high-performance plastic stabilizers, Clariant has announced major advancements in its stabilizer technology portfolio, combining expanded production capacity in China with new application breakthroughs in artificial turf and medical-grade plastics.
The company’s joint venture with Beijing Tiangang Auxiliary Co., Ltd. has completed the chemical commissioning of a second S-EED production line at its Cangzhou facility. This new line will primarily produce Nylostab™ S-EED, a multifunctional stabilizer engineered to meet the rising needs of the Asian nylon and engineering plastics markets.
Nylostab S-EED: Tailored for Nylon, Now Proven in Artificial Turf
The rapid growth of the nylon industry in China has driven demand for premium stabilizers like Nylostab S-EED. Clariant’s expanded production will enable faster and more efficient support to customers in textiles, engineering plastics, and now artificial turf.
The stabilizer has found a strong foothold in artificial turf systems, especially for sports fields. It delivers exceptional resistance to UV exposure, heat, and oxidation. Its molecular design offers outstanding solubility in nylon and strong affinity with polyamide chains. This results in superior durability and color retention, even under intensive sunlight and frequent cleaning cycles.
“Artificial turf manufacturers are increasingly seeking solutions that withstand extreme weather while maintaining performance and appearance,” said Mariano Suarez, Head of Marketing Additives at Clariant. “Nylostab S-EED ensures turf stays vibrant and durable—even under high-traffic and high-UV conditions,” Suarez added.
AddWorks LXR 548: A Game-Changer for Medical-Grade Plastics
In parallel with its nylon innovations, Clariant has launched AddWorks™ LXR 548. It is a phenol-free stabilizer specifically designed for polyolefin plastic applications. This breakthrough solution reduces yellowing and discoloration in polyolefin parts. It maintains color stability even after gamma sterilization and thermal treatments.
“This solution addresses the growing need to eliminate phenolic antioxidants from sensitive applications like medical devices and hygiene products,” noted Emilie Meddah, Market Manager Additives at Clariant. “AddWorks LXR 548 offers superior color protection and outstanding stability post-sterilization—ideal for syringes, bottles, non-wovens, and more,” added Meddah. With low extractability, excellent polymer compatibility, and a low-toxicity profile, the stabilizer meets stringent regulatory standards. This makes it highly suitable for healthcare and hygiene industries.
Driving Performance, Innovation, and Sustainability
These innovations reinforce Clariant’s commitment to providing specialty chemical solutions that combine high performance, sustainability, and application-specific functionality. By expanding its footprint in Asia and launching cutting-edge stabilizer technologies, Clariant is well-positioned to address evolving customer needs. These span diverse industries—from sports infrastructure to life sciences.
“Our partnership with Tiangang and product innovations like Nylostab S-EED and AddWorks LXR 548 reflect our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and market leadership,” added Mariano Suarez. “We are investing strategically to support growing demand and deliver value-added solutions,” Suarez further stated. As per the company press release, with expanded capacity, localized manufacturing, and breakthrough applications, Clariant continues to redefine what’s possible in polymer stabilization. It is empowering industries to create more durable, efficient, and sustainable products worldwide.
