TDK Inaugurates Advanced Lithium-Ion Battery Facility at Sohna, Haryana

Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated TDK Corporation’s state-of-the-art Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery manufacturing facility at Sohna, Haryana. Established under the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) Scheme, the plant is poised to reduce India’s dependence on imports for one of the most critical components in modern electronics — high-performance Li-ion batteries. Calling the launch a turning point in India’s electronics journey, Vaishnaw stressed that the project aligns with the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Vaishnaw said, “We are achieving a very important milestone as we fulfill the vision of a self-reliant India. We will manufacture every component—camera modules, PCB assemblies, semiconductors, and batteries—in our country in the coming years. The arrival of such advanced technology marks a major milestone in strengthening our electronics self-relianc

Massive Production Capacity

The cutting-edge facility boasts an annual production capacity of 20 crore battery packs, which can meet nearly 40% of India’s current demand of 500 million packs. These batteries will power mobile phones, smart wearables, earbuds, laptops, and other consumer electronics, significantly reducing import reliance. With scope for future expansion, the Sohna plant is set to become a key pillar in India’s fast-growing digital economy and consumer electronics market.

Strengthening Electronics Manufacturing Ecosystem

The Sohna facility represents a strategic leap in India’s electronics manufacturing landscape. Each milestone — from semiconductor fabrication and PCB assemblies to camera modules and Li-ion batteries — pushes India closer to global competitiveness in electronics production. Industry experts emphasize that domestic Li-ion battery production will also accelerate India’s ambitions in electric mobility, renewable energy storage, and next-gen consumer electronics, where battery efficiency and reliability are critical.

Looking Ahead: A Boost to India’s Global Role

As India’s electronics market is set to surpass USD 400 billion by 2030, TDK’s Sohna investment underscores global confidence in India’s policy framework, infrastructure, and skilled workforce. Devdiscourse.com reported that the manufacturing facility not only strengthens domestic manufacturing but also positions India as a trusted global partner in electronics innovation and supply chains.
