The Department of Chemistry, School of Physical Sciences, in collaboration with the Dakshina Kannada District PU College Chemistry Lecturers’ Association, organized “Chemergence 2025 – Ignite Chemical Curiosity”, a pre-university fest celebrating the fascinating world of chemistry. The event took place on September 3.
Dignitaries Grace the Inaugural Ceremony
The inaugural session of Chemergence 2025 featured Karthick R, Chief Manager (Innovation) at MRPL, as the Chief Guest, and Guruprasad M, Deputy Manager, EHS at BASF, as the Guest of Honour. The program was presided over by Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, Vice Chancellor of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University).
Inspiring Words from the Guests
Karthick R, in his keynote address, urged students to explore their potential to achieve success. He encouraged them to engage in research for national development and highlighted the uses of composite polymers. He also shared insights on click chemistry, referencing Nobel laureate Dr Caroline’s achievement in 2022, and even drew parallels with ancient times, narrating how emperors relied on innovation for dominance.
Guruprasad M emphasized the importance of independent decision-making in choosing careers. He advised students to maintain equilibrium in life choices rather than being influenced by others. Dr Praveen Martis, in his presidential remarks, inspired students by sharing his own journey into research in Chemistry. He urged them to strengthen their fundamentals, pursue research, and choose career paths aligned with their passion.
Celebrating Student Achievements
The event honoured several students for academic excellence, including those who cleared IIT JAM and secured national-level summer research fellowships. Sneha Saji proposed the vote of thanks at the end of the inaugural session.
Exciting Chemistry Events Spark Enthusiasm
Following the inauguration, the fest hosted a series of interactive and engaging events designed to ignite scientific curiosity, such as:
*Chem Forum
*Chromo Chemistry
*Chemistry Around Me
*Capture the Colour
*Chem Music
*Celebrity Scientist
*Panel Game
*Star of Chemergence
*Chem Play
*Chemmagination
*Frolic in the War of Reactions
*Spin Change
*Chemigraphy
As reported by daijiworld.com, the activities provided students with an innovative platform to explore the practical side of Chemistry while enjoying a competitive spirit.
