LNJ GreenPET, a division of the LNJ Bhilwara Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation to strengthen the recycled polyethylene terephthalate (r-PET) sector in India.
Comprehensive Scope of Collaboration
The MoU outlines collaboration in commercial development, raw material procurement, marketing strategies, and potential investment opportunities for LNJ GreenPET’s upcoming r-PET project.
As part of the agreement, both companies will conduct a detailed joint market study to assess India’s r-PET landscape. This study will focus on market sizing, customer segmentation, technical assessments, supply chain benchmarking, and regulatory feasibility analysis. These insights will play a critical role as LNJ GreenPET prepares to commence commercial production by 2026.
Global Sourcing and Pre-Marketing Support
As reported by msn.com, Sumitomo will support the project by sourcing r-PET flakes from Southeast Asia and other global regions, ensuring a reliable supply chain for the pre-production phase. The partnership will also cover pre-marketing activities, customer engagement, and establishing sales channels to serve both domestic and international markets.
Driving India’s Circular Economy Vision
Riju Jhunjhunwala, Chairman of LNJ Bhilwara Group, said, “This MoU with Sumitomo Corporation is a significant step towards strengthening India’s circular economy ecosystem. By combining Sumitomo’s global expertise with our vision for sustainable plastic recycling, we aim to create a robust r-PET value chain that addresses both domestic and global demand for sustainable packaging solutions.” The partnership aligns with India’s sustainability goals, aiming to reduce plastic waste through advanced technologies and international cooperation.
Sumitomo Brings Global Expertise
Yutaka Takamura, General Manager of Sumitomo Green Chemical SBU unit, added, “It’s an honour to partner with LNJ GreenPET in advancing the r-PET sector in India. This collaboration allows us to combine our global experience with LNJ GreenPET’s local expertise to support the development of a strong circular economy. Together, we aim to create innovative, sustainable solutions that address both domestic needs and global demand.”
