Vedanta successfully secured the Punnam manganese block in Andhra Pradesh through the auction process. The block covers 152 hectares and is currently classified at the G4 level of exploration. The G4 stage, also called reconnaissance, represents the earliest and broadest phase of mineral exploration. At this stage, geologists survey large areas to identify regions with potential mineral deposits and lay the groundwork for more detailed exploration.

Preferred Bidder Status and Next Steps

“The company has been declared the preferred bidder for the Punnam Manganese block in Andhra Pradesh by the Department of Mines and Geology,” Vedanta said.

Granting of the composite license will depend on meeting several conditions, including:

*Submission of a performance bank guarantee

*Obtaining statutory clearances

*Execution of required agreements with the state government

Composite License Explained

A composite license, formally known as a prospecting licence-cum-mining lease, is a two-stage mining concession. It allows the holder to:

*Prospect – explore and assess the extent of a mineral deposit

*Mine – conduct full-scale mining operations if the exploration results are positive and economically viable
