GAIL to Expand Jamnagar-Loni LPG Pipeline Across Five States

GAIL (India) Limited announced a major capacity expansion of the Jamnagar-Loni LPG pipeline, including the construction of a 1,107 km-long pipeline at an estimated cost of ₹5,350 crore. The expanded network will pass through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, catering to the rising demand for petroleum products and strengthening India’s energy infrastructure.

Boosting Capacity and Strengthening Energy Security

The expansion will significantly enhance the transportation capacity of the existing LPG system, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient fuel delivery to consumers across multiple regions. Compared to road transport by tankers, pipeline transmission is safer, more energy-efficient, and environmentally sustainable. The project will also help reduce carbon emissions, aligning with India’s net-zero targets and supporting the transition to a cleaner energy future.

New Natural Gas Spur Line to Support Refinery Expansion

In addition to the LPG pipeline expansion, GAIL has approved the construction of a 114 km natural gas spur line from its Vijaipur plant to the BPCL refinery complex in Bina, Madhya Pradesh, at a cost of ₹450 crore. The project comes at a critical time, as the refinery’s capacity is being expanded and a new petrochemical plant is being developed, further strengthening India’s industrial and energy network.

Advancing Green Energy Through Compressed Biogas

GAIL has also given the green light to establish a Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, designed to produce 20 tons of CBG per day from agri-based feedstock. As per press release, the facility will additionally generate 88 tonnes of Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) daily, promoting sustainable agriculture and advancing the circular economy. Equipped with a zero-wastewater discharge system, the plant reflects GAIL’s strong commitment to green energy initiatives and environmental sustainability.
