Chennai Leads the Charge on India’s Energy Storage Goals at TBSI 2025

As India accelerates its journey to become a global hub for energy storage and e-mobility, Chennai recently hosted a high-level industry roundtable in preparation for the third edition of The Battery Show India (TBSI). Scheduled from October 30 to November 1, 2025, at the India Expo Centre, Greater Noida, the event brought together senior leaders from the battery, EV, and renewable energy sectors to discuss manufacturing challenges, supply chain readiness, and emerging innovation trends.

Industry Leaders Discuss Manufacturing and Supply Chain Readiness

The roundtable, organized by Informa Markets India, featured insights from industry veterans including C. Narsimhan (Raasi Group), Chethan Srinivasa (IPG Photonics), Aji Philip (Dürr India), Anil Kumar (NASH Energy), and Shipra Mishra (Light Mechanics). Participants explored India’s progress in renewable energy, the growing demand for localized battery cell manufacturing, and the role of advanced laser technologies in EV production.

Speakers highlighted that India has already achieved nearly 50% of its 2030 renewable energy target, with approximately 250 GW installed, while underscoring the country’s continued reliance on imported raw materials such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt. They emphasized the need for domestic value-chain development and technology partnerships to ensure sustainable growth.

India’s Growing Lithium-Ion Battery Market

Rajneesh Khattar, Senior Group Director, Informa Markets India, stated, “India’s lithium-ion battery demand is expected to reach 600 GWh by 2030, creating opportunities for manufacturers, innovators, and investors across the clean energy value chain.” The discussion highlighted the critical role of policy support, industry collaboration, and technological innovation in positioning India as a leader in the global energy storage sector.

TBSI 2025: A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration

The upcoming TBSI 2025 will host over 350 exhibitors and 400 brands from countries including Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the US. Supported by the Department of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Heavy Industries, the event will showcase solutions from leading players such as BASF, Semco, Altmin, Nash Energy, and Thermofisher. As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, the Chennai roundtable served as a precursor to India’s largest battery and storage event, reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s emergence as a key EV manufacturing and clean energy hub while spotlighting the nation’s ambitious energy storage agenda.
