Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) reported a net profit of ₹732 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2025 — a sharp turnaround from a loss of ₹623 crore in the same quarter last year. The company’s revenue rose 39% year-on-year to ₹20,034 crore, reflecting strong operational and market performance. Record Throughput and Capacity Utilisation
During Q2 FY2026, CPCL achieved a crude throughput of 3.013 million tonnes (MT), up from 2.098 MT in the corresponding period last year. This translates to a remarkable 114% capacity utilisation — underscoring the company’s operational excellence and high plant reliability.
For the half year ended September 30, 2025, total crude throughput reached 5.994 million metric tons (MMT), compared to 4.928 MMT during the same period last year. The company also achieved its best-ever distillate yield of about 80%, reinforcing its focus on energy efficiency and process optimisation.
Gross Refining Margin Sees Sharp Improvement
CPCL’s Gross Refining Margin (GRM) witnessed a notable improvement, rising to $9.04 per barrel during the quarter — a sharp contrast to negative $1.63 per barrel in Q2 FY2025. In comparison, the Singapore GRM stood at $4 per barrel for the same quarter. For the half-year period, CPCL maintained a GRM of $6.17 per barrel, a major turnaround from the negative $2.93 per barrel recorded last year. The Singapore GRM for the half-year stood at $4.8 per barrel, highlighting CPCL’s strong competitive position.
