Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) exchanged government orders (GOs) with the Andhra Pradesh government to develop a 1,200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Nandyal and a 50 MW Hybrid Solar Project. The exchange, announced on Saturday, marks a major step in strengthening the state’s renewable energy infrastructure.

Boosting Andhra Pradesh’s Renewable Energy Ecosystem

With these GOs, Andhra Pradesh moves closer to building a robust energy storage ecosystem. SECI reaffirmed its commitment to working with States and Central Ministries to accelerate India’s clean energy transition. According to the ministry of new and renewable energy, “Together, these projects signal a major leap in clean energy storage capacity, strengthening the state’s renewable ecosystem and powering India’s transition to a more resilient, storage-enabled green grid.”

Key Approvals and Implementation Framework

The exchange took place during the Energy Session of the Andhra Pradesh Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam, organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade and CII. On January 23, 2025, the ministry of power designated SECI as the implementing agency for the 1,200 MWh BESS project. SECI will execute the project under Market-Based Operations.

SECI to Fully Fund Both Projects

As reported by thenewsminute.com, both projects will be developed under the CAPEX Mode. SECI will take complete investment responsibility. This approach aims to ensure faster implementation and long-term operational stability.
