RSPL Group’s SOKA to Double Soda Ash Production Capacity

RSPL Group’s soda ash arm, SOKA, achieved a major milestone after receiving environmental clearance to double the production capacity at its Gujarat manufacturing facility. The approval paves the way for a significant scale-up in operations and strengthens the company’s position in India’s fast-growing chemicals and industrial materials market. With this expansion, SOKA will increase its soda ash output from 500,000 tons to 1 million tons per annum (MTPA), reinforcing its standing among India’s leading soda ash producers.

Expansion to Include Sodium Bicarbonate Manufacturing

In addition to higher soda ash output, SOKA plans to diversify its portfolio by adding sodium bicarbonate (SBC) production. This move will allow the company to cater to a broader set of industries and enhance value-added offerings. As part of the phased expansion, SOKA is already executing plans to raise capacity to 750,000 tons annually within the next two years, followed by an additional 2,50,000 tons at its state-of-the-art chemical complex. Together, these steps will help the company reach the 1 MTPA target.

Boost to Gujarat’s Economy and Employment

Beyond production gains, the expansion is expected to deliver strong local economic benefits. The project will create nearly 2,000 new employment opportunities in Gujarat’s coastal region, supporting industrial growth and strengthening the regional supply chain ecosystem. By scaling up domestic manufacturing, SOKA also aims to reduce import dependence and support India’s broader industrial self-reliance goals.

Strengthening Presence in Solar Glass and Key End-Use Sectors

The increased capacity will enable SOKA to deepen its presence in high-growth sectors such as solar glass, where soda ash serves as a critical raw material. Rising solar installations across India and globally are driving demand for glass-grade chemicals, creating fresh opportunities for producers.

Apart from solar glass, soda ash from the plant supplies industries including:

*Detergents and FMCG

*Glass manufacturing

*Textiles

*Chemicals and industrial applications

The diversified demand base positions SOKA for steady long-term growth.

Expanding Global Footprint

Since commissioning its soda ash facility in 2019 in Gujarat’s Dwarka district, SOKA has steadily expanded its international reach. Today, the company exports to nearly 50 countries, covering markets across Central America, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. The new capacity will further enhance export potential and strengthen India’s role in the global soda ash trade.

Leadership Perspective

Tinku Chhabra, CEO, SOKA, said “The environmental clearance to expand our soda ash manufacturing capacity is a significant step in advancing the ‘Make in India’ vision. Our plant plays a critical role in strengthening the domestic industrial ecosystem by supplying essential raw materials to key sectors such as detergents, glass, solar glass, textiles, and chemicals”.

Outlook

As reported by projectstoday.com, with higher capacity, product diversification, and expanding exports, SOKA is positioning itself as a key growth driver in India’s soda ash and specialty chemicals market. The expansion not only boosts supply capabilities but also supports renewable energy, industrial manufacturing, and regional economic development.
