
GAIL (India) Limited, a Maharatna PSU and one of India’s leading natural gas companies, signed a long-term charter party agreement with Alpha Gas, a prominent Greek shipping company, for the LNG carrier “Energy Fidelity.” The agreement was executed between GAIL and Pantheon Maritime Services Private Limited, a Singapore-based affiliate of Alpha Gas. This partnership is expected to strengthen GAIL’s LNG shipping capabilities while supporting the company’s expanding global LNG trade operations.
Agreement Signed in Athens
The charter agreement was formally signed at Alpha Gas headquarters in Athens, Greece. S. Bairagi, Executive Director (Marketing – Shipping and International LNG), GAIL (India) Limited, and Anna Angelicoussis, owner of Alpha Gas, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. The signing marks an important step in expanding collaboration between India’s energy sector and global maritime partners.
Advanced LNG Carrier with High Efficiency
The LNG carrier “Energy Fidelity” has a cargo capacity of 1,74,000 cubic meters, enabling efficient transportation of liquefied natural gas across international routes. Importantly, the vessel is equipped with advanced marine technologies designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact, including state-of-the-art two-stroke propulsion system and advanced air lubrication technology and shaft generators for optimized energy usage. These technologies enhance operational efficiency while significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions, supporting the global transition toward cleaner energy logistics.
Strengthening India’s LNG Supply Chain
The long-term charter agreement represents a significant milestone for GAIL’s LNG shipping strategy. By securing dedicated LNG carrier capacity, the company aims to strengthen the reliability and efficiency of its global LNG supply chain. The agreement aligns with India’s broader energy security objectives, ensuring stable LNG transportation to meet the country’s growing natural gas demand.

The partnership also contributes to the ‘Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047’, an initiative focused on enhancing India’s maritime infrastructure and shipping capabilities.
