Chemspec Europe 2026 successfully returned to Cologne, Germany, on 6–7 May 2026, bringing together the global specialty chemicals industry at a time of growing economic and regulatory uncertainty. The event attracted 4,238 attendees from 60 countries and featured 454 exhibitors representing 28 nations, marking a notable increase compared to the previous edition.
Strong International Participation Highlights Industry Relevance
Chemspec Europe 2026 once again demonstrated its position as a leading international platform for the specialty chemicals sector. The exhibition welcomed professionals from key industries including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, paints and coatings, oil and gas, and personal care and cosmetics.
Visitors travelled from major European markets such as Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Italy. At the same time, the event also recorded strong participation from international markets including India, China and the United States, reinforcing Europe’s role as a strategic global meeting point for the chemical industry. Nicolas Sary, Senior Manager Responsible Chemistry at Henkel AG & Co., highlighted the event’s diversity, stating that Chemspec Europe offers “something for everyone” across the specialty chemicals value chain.
Industry Leaders Emphasise Collaboration and Resilience
As global chemical markets continue facing challenges related to economic slowdown, geopolitical uncertainty and regulatory complexity, the event strongly focused on resilience, strategic collaboration and future preparedness.
The opening keynote and panel discussions stressed that Europe’s chemical value chain must work more closely together to remain globally competitive and future-ready. Speakers across the Strategy Stage discussed how scenario planning, operational flexibility and industry partnerships are becoming increasingly critical during prolonged market volatility.
Dorothee Arns, Director General at FECC emphasised that Chemspec Europe plays a crucial role in connecting stakeholders and helping companies build the partnerships needed to navigate uncertainty and strengthen long-term resilience. Similarly, Dr Peter Deglmann, Team Leader Quantum Chemistry at BASF praised the event for bringing together a broad mix of industry perspectives under one platform.
Technical Sessions Address Emerging Regulatory Challenges
In addition to strategic discussions, Chemspec Europe 2026 also featured in-depth technical sessions covering some of the industry’s most pressing issues. Topics included evolving PFAS regulations, biological crop protection technologies and specialty formulation innovations. These sessions provided valuable insights into the rapidly changing regulatory environment and helped industry professionals better understand the operational and compliance challenges shaping the future of specialty chemicals.
Networking Opportunities Drive New Partnerships
Beyond the conference sessions, the exhibition floor remained highly active throughout the two-day event as suppliers, manufacturers, procurers and innovators explored new business opportunities and partnerships. Jörg Ludwig Schulte noted that the event creates a unique opportunity to connect companies from different sectors and even facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships across industries.
Chemspec Europe 2027 to Mark 40th Anniversary in Basel
Reflecting on the success of the event, Christiane Beck, Event Director for Chemspec Europe said the exhibition successfully brought the industry together to address common challenges, strengthen partnerships and discuss pathways for sustainable growth. As per the press release, Chemspec Europe will celebrate its 40th anniversary when the event moves to Basel, Switzerland, on 24–25 May 2027.
