Vikram Solar commissioned its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu, marking a major milestone in its expansion strategy with the successful production of the first solar module from the new plant. The greenfield facility has been developed as a next-generation smart factory equipped with advanced automation and digital manufacturing technologies. Besides strengthening India’s domestic solar manufacturing capabilities, the plant is expected to create employment opportunities for more than 1,500 skilled professionals, supporting the country’s clean energy and manufacturing ambitions.
Smart Factory Designed for High-Efficiency Manufacturing
The Gangaikondan facility integrates intelligent manufacturing systems that improve production efficiency, product quality, and operational reliability. The plant features real-time production monitoring, end-to-end module traceability, automated inspection systems for defect detection, intelligent grading and sorting of solar modules and automated packaging based on module performance. By leveraging digital manufacturing technologies, Vikram Solar aims to ensure consistent product quality while enhancing production efficiency and reducing manufacturing defects.
Hypersol N-Type TOPCon Modules Roll Off the Production Line
The first products manufactured at the facility are Vikram Solar’s Hypersol N-Type TOPCon G12R solar modules, designed to deliver high efficiency for utility-scale and commercial solar projects. The modules offer Power output ranging from 615 Wp to 640 Wp and module efficiencies of up to 23.69%. These high-performance modules are expected to support India’s growing demand for efficient and reliable solar energy solutions.
Gangaikondan to Anchor Vikram Solar’s Expansion Strategy
The new manufacturing campus forms the cornerstone of Vikram Solar’s long-term vision of building a fully integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem. Rather than focusing solely on module production, the company plans to gradually expand manufacturing capabilities across the entire solar value chain at the Gangaikondan site. The integrated facility is expected to include the production of solar modules, solar cells, wafers and ingots. This vertical integration strategy will help improve supply chain resilience, increase domestic value addition, and reduce dependence on imported raw materials.
Ambitious Capacity Expansion Plans
Vikram Solar has outlined an aggressive manufacturing roadmap to support India’s rapidly growing renewable energy sector. The company aims to achieve 9 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity by FY2026-27 and 12 GW of wafer and ingot manufacturing capacity by FY2029-30. These expansion plans are expected to strengthen the company’s manufacturing footprint while contributing to the Government of India’s objective of building a self-reliant solar manufacturing industry.
