The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) GreenCo Council launched the CII GreenCo Circularity Guidelines – Pilot Version at the 17th CII GreenCo Waste & Resource Management Summit 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen resource efficiency, reduce waste and accelerate the adoption of circular economy practices across India’s manufacturing and process industries. By introducing a structured assessment framework, CII GreenCo seeks to help industries improve resource utilisation, minimise material waste and advance sustainable manufacturing practices.
Circularity Indices to Measure Resource Efficiency
The pilot guidelines introduce circularity indices covering raw materials, consumables, packaging and other resource inputs. These indicators will enable industries to evaluate their existing resource management practices and identify opportunities to improve material productivity. Furthermore, the framework will help companies measure progress towards sustainable material utilisation, improve resource efficiency and identify areas where they can reduce waste throughout their operations.
Summit Highlights Waste-to-Wealth Opportunities
The summit explored several emerging opportunities in waste and resource management, including waste-to-wealth initiatives, advanced recycling technologies, biogas, Bio-CNG, waste-to-energy solutions and battery recycling. In addition, industry discussions highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI), automation, smart sensors and digital traceability in transforming waste management. These technologies can help industries monitor resource flows, improve waste segregation and strengthen material recovery processes.
Industry Participation to Refine the Framework
CII GreenCo has invited manufacturing and process industries to participate in the pilot programme. Participating companies can implement the framework, evaluate its practical application and provide feedback to help refine the guidelines. As reported by constructionworld.in, the initiative aims to develop a practical approach to circularity assessment that supports broader industry adoption, improves resource productivity and promotes sustainable industrial growth across India.
