The Pesticide Manufacturers & Formulators Association of India (PMFAI) has reported a positive outcome for the Indian agrochemical industry at the 22nd meeting of the Chemical Review Committee (CRC-22) under the Rotterdam Convention. Held in Rome from September 15 to 18, 2026, the meeting reviewed regulatory notifications concerning three important pesticide molecules: profenofos, phenthoate and quinalphos.

Ahead of the meeting, PMFAI established dedicated task force groups comprising industry experts to prepare technical submissions and support the defence of these pesticide molecules. The association submitted comprehensive technical information to the relevant ministries of the Government of India and the Rotterdam Convention Secretariat.

PMFAI Coordinates with Government of India

PMFAI coordinated its efforts with key government departments, including the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals; and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The PMFAI delegation, led by Dr. K. N. Singh of Gharda Chemicals Ltd. and Dr. Samir Dave of AIMCO Pesticides Ltd., worked alongside government representatives to present the industry’s technical position during the meeting. Through this coordinated engagement, the Indian agrochemical industry secured outcomes that did not result in the listing of the three pesticide molecules at CRC-22.

PMFAI Reaffirms Commitment to Science-Based Advocacy

PMFAI reiterated its commitment to representing India’s agrochemical manufacturing and formulation industry at international regulatory forums, including the Rotterdam, Stockholm and Basel conventions. The association aims to protect the interests of Indian manufacturers of generic agrochemical products through science-based advocacy, continued dialogue and constructive engagement with regulatory authorities worldwide. Overall, the CRC-22 outcomes highlight the role of technical submissions and coordinated industry-government representation in international chemical regulatory discussions. As per the press release, PMFAI will continue to engage with relevant stakeholders to support science-based decision-making and represent the interests of India’s agrochemical sector at global forums.
