Godavari Biorefineries Limited bagged a patent from the Mexican Patent Office for its invention titled “Use of Compounds for Treating Viral Infections.” Following similar patent grants in Japan and China, this latest achievement expands the company’s intellectual property protection across key international markets. The patent strengthens Godavari Biorefineries’ life sciences portfolio and highlights its continued research into compounds that could support the development of antiviral treatments.

Patent Covers Compounds Targeting V-ATPase

The Mexican patent covers compounds that inhibit Vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), a cellular mechanism involved in the infection process of certain viruses. It also covers the use of these compounds in manufacturing medicines for treating viral infections. Through this research, Godavari Biorefineries is investigating the role of V-ATPase in viral infections and its potential as a target for antiviral research. Consequently, the patent recognises a specific application of these compounds and extends the geographical protection of the company’s research outcomes.

Leadership Highlights

Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director of Godavari Biorefineries Limited, said the expansion of patent protection into Mexico, following Japan and China, marks another milestone in the company’s commitment to innovation and global growth. He emphasised the importance of building an India that can innovate and compete internationally. Furthermore, he noted that the achievement reflects the global reach of the company’s research and its commitment to developing high-impact life sciences solutions.

Dr Sangeeta Srivastava, Executive Director of Godavari Biorefineries Limited, added that the research has enabled the company to explore how compounds that inhibit V-ATPase activity could contribute to antiviral research. She noted that the patent represents an important outcome of the company’s continued work in this field.

Patent Strengthens Godavari Biorefineries’ Life Sciences Portfolio

The patent names four inventors: Dr Sangeeta Srivastava, Dr Sandip Gavade, Dr Maithili Athavale and Dr Prashant Kharkar. As per the press release, with patent protection now secured in Mexico, Japan and China, Godavari Biorefineries continues to expand its intellectual property in antiviral compounds. Overall, this development reinforces the company’s focus on life sciences research, innovation and the international protection of its scientific discoveries.
