Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) announced that all its operational sites and corporate headquarters have received the ‘Zero-Waste-to-Landfill’ (ZWL) certification from Intertek, a global quality assurance provider. The certification confirms that AESL has achieved a 100% waste diversion rate, with no waste sent to landfills. AESL manages all waste through reduction, reuse, recycling, or recovery, conserving resources and minimizing the need for fresh raw materials.
Extensive Operations Across India
AESL operates across 54 locations in 16 states, including many remote and challenging areas. Achieving ZWL certification across such a wide operational footprint posed significant challenges. Yet, the company consistently maintained diversion rates above 99% for three consecutive years, culminating in the 100% milestone this year.
“Over the last three years, AESL achieved impressive diversion rates of 99.87%, 99.88%, and 99.99%, making it India’s first transmission company to maintain over 99% diversion consecutively. This year, AESL is also the only transmission utility to reach 100% diversion,” the company stated.
Commitment to ESG and Global Leadership
AESL’s journey in environment, social, and governance (ESG) practices began in FY 2021. The company set an ambitious goal to place itself among the top 10 electric utility companies globally in ESG benchmarking. The ZWL certification marks a significant step in realizing this vision.
Policy Support Accelerates Waste Management
Government reforms have further supported sustainable waste practices. GST on services provided by Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) has been reduced from 12% to 5%. This lowers costs for industries managing waste centrally.
“This reform will help municipal corporations implement clean energy solutions for waste management and create green jobs in areas such as waste segregation, plant operations, and maintenance,” a government report stated. As of 4th August 2025, 222 CETPs operate across India, with 53 designed for Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) in various states.
Driving Sustainable Industrial Practices
Reduced taxes on CETPs are expected to encourage industries to adopt centralized waste treatment methods, leading to pollution-free environments and promoting sustainable industrial development. As reported by msn.com, AESL’s achievement, combined with policy support, underscores a holistic approach to waste management and environmental stewardship in India’s power transmission sector.
