Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has joined hands with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to establish India’s first ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering facility at Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala. This landmark collaboration marks a major stride in India’s maritime energy transition.

Pioneering India’s Clean Shipping Future

The upcoming facility at Vizhinjam will cater to vessels operating along the East–West global shipping corridor, offering LNG as a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to traditional marine fuels. By introducing this infrastructure, APSEZ and BPCL aim to help shipping lines reduce greenhouse gas emissions and comply with evolving global decarbonization standards.

Advancing Sustainable Maritime Infrastructure

The partnership underscores APSEZ’s commitment to developing green and energy-efficient ports. It also aligns with BPCL’s strategic focus on expanding its clean energy portfolio. Together, both organizations are setting the stage for India to become a regional hub for LNG bunkering. They also aim to promote sustainable shipping solutions.

Supporting India’s Net-Zero Ambitions

As reported by projectstoday.com, the initiative directly supports India’s 2070 net-zero emission goal. It also positions the country as a frontrunner in adopting eco-friendly maritime technologies. Once operational, the Vizhinjam facility will serve as a global benchmark for environmentally responsible port infrastructure. It will also pave the way for wider adoption of low-carbon marine fuels across the region.
