Ashoka University’s Ashoka Centre for a People-Centric Energy Transition (ACPET) forged a strategic partnership with the Technology Innovation in Exploration & Mining (TEXMiN) Foundation, a Department of Science and Technology-backed initiative at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. Through this collaboration, both institutions aim to accelerate research and policy development in critical minerals and clean energy systems.

Focus on Research, Policy, and Capacity Building

The partnership will actively drive evidence-based research, policy advocacy, and capacity building across the entire energy–minerals value chain. Specifically, it will address key priorities such as identifying critical minerals, enabling their sustainable extraction, strengthening supply chains, and repurposing mines for renewable energy generation and ecological restoration.

Blending Policy Expertise with Advanced Mining Technologies

By combining ACPET’s strengths in energy transition policy and community-focused research with TEXMiN’s advanced technological capabilities, the collaboration creates a powerful synergy. TEXMiN brings expertise in AI, IoT, robotics, and cyber-physical systems aligned with Mining 4.0, thereby enhancing innovation in mining exploration and operations.

Assessing Environmental and Climate Impacts

In addition, the partnership will place strong emphasis on analysing environmental and climate risks in mining regions. This includes evaluating carbon footprints, land and water usage, and broader ecological impacts. As a result, the initiative aims to promote more sustainable and responsible mining practices.

Advancing People-Centric and Just Transition Frameworks

The collaboration will develop people-centric frameworks that connect mineral resource governance with clean energy deployment. It will also focus on enabling a just transition for mining-dependent communities, ensuring that economic and social outcomes remain inclusive and equitable.

Aligning with India’s Energy and Climate Goals

The initiative closely aligns with India’s national priorities, including strengthening energy security, reducing dependence on imported critical minerals, and achieving long-term climate goals such as Net Zero 2070. Furthermore, it supports the broader vision of building a resilient and self-reliant industrial ecosystem.

Driving Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange

Both institutions will jointly undertake research projects, technical reports, and policy briefs while actively pursuing national and international funding opportunities. To foster knowledge exchange, they will organise workshops, conferences, and academic collaborations, including student and faculty exchange programmes.

Building End-to-End Sustainable Solutions

As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, over the next three years, the partnership is expected to deliver integrated, end-to-end solutions across the clean energy and mining sectors. Ultimately, it will prioritise sustainability, technological innovation, and community-centric outcomes, positioning India for a stronger and more secure energy future.
