BASF has officially started the registration process for its latest fungicide innovation, Adapzo® Active (Flufenoxadiazam), by submitting regulatory dossiers in Brazil and Paraguay, with Bolivia next in line. As the first histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor in the industry, Adapzo Active marks a major step forward in soybean disease control. With regulatory approvals expected, BASF is targeting first market introductions of formulations based on Adapzo Active by 2029.
A Critical Breakthrough Against Asian Soybean Rust
Adapzo Active delivers a novel mode of action that offers robust protection against Asian Soybean Rust (ASR) — a disease that has become a persistent threat to soybean production across South America. ASR can slash yields by up to 90% if left unchecked. With its ability to neutralize mutated fungal strains resistant to current solutions, it fills a critical gap in disease management strategies.
Protecting a Vital Crop for Food, Feed, and Energy
Soybeans have emerged as a vital global commodity, supporting food systems, animal nutrition, and renewable energy. Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia together account for 44% of the world’s soybean output. Yet, this key production zone faces rising pressure from ASR outbreaks, demanding urgent and sustainable innovations in crop protection.
Consistent Performance and Environmental Compatibility
According to Ulf Groeger, Vice President Fungicides Research at BASF Agricultural Solutions, “Adapzo Active provides breakthrough control of ASR to protect growers’ yield potential, while consistently outperforming existing products on the market.” Moreover, when used according to label guidelines, the fungicide is compatible with beneficial organisms and non-target species, aligning with sustainable farming practices.
Stronger Together: Synergy with BASF’s Existing Portfolio
Adapzo Active reaches its full potential when used alongside complementary fungicides, such as Pavecto® Active, from BASF’s product lineup. “The Adapzo Active product family is designed to become an essential part of farmers’ disease management practices,” said Johannes Weimer, Vice President Global Strategic Marketing Portfolio Solutions Fungicides. “It offers outstanding, broad-spectrum control of South America’s most damaging soybean diseases, including target spot.”
Tailored for Soybean Growers in South America
Unlike conventional fungicides that target multiple diseases, Adapzo Active was specifically developed to control ASR in soybean crops. “We drew on deep insights from local growers and designed a solution tailored to their unique challenges,” explained Ademar De Geroni Junior, Vice President Strategic Marketing Latin America at BASF Agricultural Solutions. “With Adapzo Active, BASF reinforces its commitment to driving sustainable agriculture, especially for soybean farmers in Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia,” he added.
