Biofertilizer Facility Commissioned in Himachal Pradesh

Professor Naveen Kumar Arora from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, has played a vital role in establishing a biofertilizer production unit and laboratory in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. Developed in collaboration with Manav Vikas Sansthan, the facility marks a major stride towards promoting sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices in the region.

Technical Expertise Fuels Local Capability

Prof. Arora provided hands-on technical training to the staff of Manav Vikas Sansthan, enabling them to develop microbe-based biofertilizers. These biofertilizers have already proven effective in enhancing crop productivity across villages in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. They offer an environmentally responsible solution for modern farming.

Building on a Strong Research Foundation

Prior to this initiative, BBAU had been producing and supplying biofertilizer under a project funded by DST-SEED, Ministry of Science and Technology. With the new unit now operational in Himachal Pradesh, local production has officially begun—significantly improving access and efficiency for farmers in the region.

Harnessing Beneficial Microorganisms

The newly developed laboratory will produce biofertilizers using beneficial microbial strains such as Trichoderma, Pseudomonas, and Bacillus. “These strains, along with several other useful microorganisms, were provided by me to the unit,” said Prof. Arora. The microbes promote plant growth, improve soil health, and reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers.

Empowering Rural Communities Through Innovation

The initiative is expected to strengthen sustainable farming practices. It will also empower rural communities by increasing yields through natural and cost-effective means. As reported by projectstoday.com, the project combines scientific expertise with grassroots implementation. It exemplifies how research can drive meaningful change on the ground.
