Calderys successfully commissioned the first production line at its CAPES facility in Odisha, marking a significant leap in its India operations. Calderys is setting CAPES—short for Calderys Plant in East and South India—to become a cornerstone of its manufacturing footprint, supplying high-performance refractories and steel casting fluxes to India’s rapidly growing industrial sectors.

Acidic Monolithics Line Goes Live

The newly operational production line, dedicated to next-generation acidic monolithic refractories, has been running since May 2025. Equipped with state-of-the-art mixers, blenders, and automated batching systems, the line delivers products known for their superior chemical resistance and thermal stability. Backed by rigorous in-house testing and quality controls, these refractories are already supporting customers across India. They provide reliable, quick-to-deliver solutions for high-temperature and corrosive environments.

Tap-Hole Clay Line Broadens Product Portfolio

Further expanding the site’s scope, Calderys has announced a new production line for tap-hole clay, which will be built on an additional five acres of land. This specialized line will produce high-plasticity, high-performance clay tailored for blast furnace operations—ensuring consistent tapping performance and long-term durability. With this addition, Calderys strengthens its ability to serve India’s iron and steelmakers with localized, agile, and high-capacity manufacturing solutions.

Six Advanced Lines Planned at CAPES

Once fully operational, the CAPES facility will house six advanced manufacturing lines. These will produce acidic and basic monolithics, acidic and basic bricks, ready-shaped refractory products, steel casting fluxes, and tap-hole clays. The second line—for basic monolithics—is scheduled to become operational by August 2025.

Leadership Highlights Strategic Vision

“The commissioning of our first line and new product sales are major milestones in the CAPES journey,” said Michel Cornelissen, President and CEO of Calderys. “This rapid progress underscores our commitment to supporting India’s high-temperature industrial sectors with cutting-edge refractory solutions,” Cornelissen added.

Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, added, “We are ahead of schedule since breaking ground. With world-class manufacturing, strict quality systems, and a skilled team, we’re empowering Indian industries to operate smarter, cleaner, and more competitively.”

Strategic Location Offers Competitive Advantage

Situated close to major steel plants, the CAPES facility enhances Calderys’ ability to deliver faster and more efficient customer support. The strategic location shortens lead times. It also enables the company to align its offerings with domestic market demands. As per the press release, with these investments, Calderys continues to build a future-ready manufacturing base in India. This effort brings innovation, agility, and resilience to the country’s vital industrial sectors.
