Vioneo, a European pioneer in fossil-free plastics, has awarded a major contract to ECI Group, a global leader in polymer technology licensing and engineering services. The project will deliver the world’s first low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plant operating entirely on fossil-free feedstock. It will set a new benchmark in sustainable plastics production.
Antwerp to Host Historic Facility
The facility in Antwerp, Belgium, will mark a pivotal step in the transition toward sustainable plastics. It will use ECI Group’s proprietary autoclave technology to produce 110,000 tonnes of LDPE annually from certified green methanol. Backed by A.P. Moller Holding, the venture will also benefit from Repsol’s market expertise and product knowledge, ensuring commercial viability and technical excellence.
Industry Milestone After Four Decades
“We’re proud to have been selected to support Vioneo’s vision to create the world’s first green LDPE plant and the first new autoclave LDPE plant to be built in Europe in forty years,” said Joaquin Flores, President and CEO of ECI Group. “This project aligns perfectly with our mission of delivering technology solutions that drive sustainable innovation,” Flores added.
Driving Europe’s Fossil-Free Future
A.P. Moller Holding strongly supports Vioneo, which pioneers fossil-free plastics manufacturing. According to the press release, Vioneo will build the Antwerp plant as part of a larger production complex that tackles environmental challenges linked to conventional plastics. Once it becomes operational, the plant will position Europe as a leader in the global transition to sustainable, fossil-free polymers.
