GEON, the future technologies division of Kabra Extrusiontechnik Ltd., successfully completed the integration and commissioning of a 2.88 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Khavda, Gujarat. Delivered within an impressive five-month timeframe, the project is among the largest utility-scale battery energy storage deployments in India and is now fully operational for commercial use. The achievement marks a significant step forward in strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure and enhancing grid reliability as the country accelerates its clean energy transition.
Supporting the Growth of the Khavda Renewable Energy Hub
The battery storage project forms an integral part of the rapidly expanding renewable energy ecosystem at Khavda, which is emerging as one of India’s most important clean energy hubs. GEON’s scope of work included complete system integration, project execution, testing, and commissioning. The company successfully integrated critical infrastructure components such as Power Conditioning Systems (PCS), transformers, and advanced Energy Management Systems (EMS), ensuring seamless operation and optimal energy performance.
Battery Storage Becomes Central to Renewable Energy Growth
Anand Kabra, Chairman and Managing Director of GEON – Green Energy ON, emphasized the growing importance of energy storage in India’s power sector. “The Khavda project is a meaningful marker of how quickly energy storage infrastructure is scaling in India. Battery storage is no longer a supporting technology—it is fast becoming central to how we manage and deliver clean power at grid scale. We are proud to have delivered this project on time and look forward to building on this momentum.”
Rapid Execution Demonstrates Project Delivery Capabilities
Saurabh Jain, CEO – Energy Storage at GEON, highlighted the company’s ability to execute large-scale energy storage projects efficiently and within challenging timelines. “GEON successfully delivered the 2.88 GWh BESS Khavda project as the nodal agency, completing the entire scope within an impressive timeline of just five months. The achievement reflects strong planning, efficient execution, and seamless coordination between the engineering and on-site project teams,” informed Jain. He further noted that the project demonstrates GEON’s expertise in delivering complex energy storage infrastructure with speed, precision, and high-quality standards.
GEON Eyes Domestic BESS Manufacturing Expansion
GEON plans to further strengthen India’s energy storage ecosystem through domestic manufacturing initiatives. As part of its long-term growth strategy, the company is working toward establishing a gigafactory dedicated to Battery Energy Storage Systems. The proposed facility is expected to support rising demand for energy storage solutions while contributing to India’s ambitions of building a self-reliant and globally competitive clean energy supply chain. As per the press release, with the successful completion of the Khavda project, GEON has reinforced its position as a key player in India’s rapidly evolving energy storage sector and demonstrated its capability to execute large-scale infrastructure projects that support the country’s renewable energy future.
