Government Aiming Five Million MTPA of Hydrogen Production by 2030

The ministry for new and renewable energy and power has stated that the National Green Hydrogen Mission, inaugurated on January 4, 2023, aims to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of five million metric tons per annum (MTPA) by the year 2030.

The Request for Selection (RfS) has been released for the identification of green hydrogen producers to establish production facilities capable of producing 4,50,000 tons of green hydrogen in India, as part of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme (Mode-1-Tranche-I) on July 10, 2023. The deadline for bid submissions is December 12, 2023.

Similarly, an RfS has been issued for the selection of Electrolyser Manufacturers (EM) to establish annual electrolyser manufacturing capacities of 1.5 GW under the SIGHT Scheme (Tranche-I) on July 7, 2023. The last date for the submission of bids for the initiative is December 12, 2023.

The National Green Hydrogen Mission has the goal of positioning India as a global centre for the production, utilisation, and export of green hydrogen and its by-products. The mission is anticipated to encourage collaboration and engagement on a global scale, fostering partnerships with various international initiatives in the fields of Hydrogen and fuel cells.

As reported by the Press Information Bureau, through bilateral and multilateral collaboration programs, the mission aims to facilitate cooperation among academia, universities, technical institutions, industries, and research laboratories to achieve tangible outcomes in technology development and knowledge dissemination.
