Granules India Acquires Swiss Firm Senn Chemicals

Granules India has officially acquired Switzerland-based Senn Chemicals AG, marking a strategic leap into the high-growth peptide therapeutics and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO) space. The move underscores Granules’ ambition to transform into a science and innovation led global pharmaceutical player.

Strengthening Scientific Capabilities and Market Reach

Granules Peptides Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Granules India, executed the acquisition. With this addition, Granules gains access to Senn Chemicals’ deep scientific expertise and proven track record in peptide manufacturing using both liquid-phase (LPPS) and solid-phase (SPPS) synthesis technologies.

Established over six decades ago, Senn Chemicals has built a strong reputation in serving the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and diagnostic industries, with a focus on quality and innovation.

A Strategic Step Toward Advanced Therapeutics

Dr. Krishna Prasad Chigurupati, Chairman and Managing Director, Granules India stated, “The acquisition of Senn Chemicals AG marks a pivotal step in Granules’ strategic evolution into a science- and innovation-led organisation. By entering the rapidly growing peptide therapeutics segment and building on Senn’s specialised CDMO capabilities, we are well-positioned to deliver high-quality, next-generation treatments”.

The strategic move allows Granules to accelerate the development of peptide-based Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). These include GLP-1 receptor agonists, which are in high demand for treating diabetes, obesity, and other chronic conditions.

Entering the CDMO Market with Global Ambitions

The acquisition also marks Granules’ formal entry into the CDMO segment, opening new avenues for growth in regulated markets. Granules aims to enhance its global manufacturing footprint by leveraging Senn Chemicals’ capabilities. It also plans to offer customised solutions and deepen relationships with international pharma innovators.

Senn Chemicals to Operate Independently Under Granules’ Leadership

Despite the ownership change, Senn Chemicals will continue to operate independently from its base in Dielsdorf, Switzerland. As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, the company will retain its brand identity and existing customer relationships. It will also maintain its commitment to scientific excellence while benefiting from Granules’ financial strength and global network.
