Pralhad Joshi, Union minister visited Greenko integrated renewable energy storage project at Pinnapuram, Andhra Pradesh. He praised the project’s ambitious scale and rapid progress, calling it a proud symbol of India’s growing green energy capabilities.
A World-First in Renewable Integration
The Greenko Pinnapuram project is the world’s first and largest gigawatt-scale integrated renewable energy storage facility. Once operational, it will combine 4,000 MW of solar, 1,000 MW of wind, and 1,680 MW of pumped hydro storage to deliver 10,080 MWh of dispatchable, carbon-free energy daily. This innovative solution directly supports high-impact sectors such as green steel, green aluminum, and green hydrogen production.
During his visit, Shri Joshi took an aerial tour of the sprawling facility and reviewed key components of the project. Speaking afterward, he remarked,
“Witnessing this remarkable Integrated Renewable Energy Storage Project at Pinnapuram — the world’s first and largest of its kind — is a matter of immense pride. It is a shining example of India’s renewable energy potential,” mentioned the minister.
Greenko’s Vision for a Greener Future
Anil Chalamalasetty, Group CEO and MD of Greenko, led a detailed tour showcasing the scale, innovation, and impact of the project. He emphasized that the integrated model—merging solar, wind, and pumped hydro—will significantly contribute to decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries and enhance the region’s economic landscape.
Anil highlighted that the project will help India avoid 3.3 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually. Beyond clean energy generation and storage, the facility is designed for on-demand power supply, ensuring greater energy reliability and security. “This initiative will drive regional economic growth, attract investments in ancillary sectors, and create substantial employment opportunities,” he added.
Building a National Cloud Storage Platform
Greenko is at the forefront of energy transition technologies. In addition to Pinnapuram, the company is developing several pumped hydro storage projects across India. The initiatives will collectively contribute to a national cloud energy storage platform with a target capacity exceeding 100 GWh.
Greenko’s Intelligent Renewable Energy (RE) Cloud Storage Platform aligns with India’s One Nation, One Grid policy—is revolutionizing green energy delivery. The platform enables the production of the world’s most cost-effective green molecules, accelerating global decarbonization efforts.
India’s Energy Future
The Pinnapuram project represents a total investment of $4.2 billion-$3 billion for solar and wind generation infrastructure, and $1.2 billion for pumped hydro storage. The landmark initiative not only solves the challenge of renewable intermittency but also positions India as a global leader in sustainable, dispatchable energy solutions.
