India has achieved a major clean energy milestone, crossing 100 GW of solar PV module manufacturing capacity. Celebrating the achievement, the government called it a testament to the country’s growing manufacturing strength and a significant step towards energy self-reliance.
Boost to Atmanirbhar Bharat and Clean Energy Goals
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) confirmed the achievement under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) framework. This progress aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, positioning India as a key player in the global transition to clean energy.
From 2.3 GW to 100 GW in a Decade
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted the remarkable journey from just 2.3 GW in 2014 to 100 GW in 2025. He credited the success to policy measures such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, which has spurred investment, innovation, and rapid capacity building.
Expanding Industry Base and Competitiveness
The milestone reflects the rise of over 100 manufacturers in the sector, increasing both capacity and competition. This expansion is expected to further drive efficiency, lower costs, and strengthen India’s position in the global solar supply chain.
Powering the Future
As reported by devdiscourse.com, by achieving this scale in solar PV manufacturing, India is not only advancing its clean energy ambitions but also reinforcing its role in shaping a sustainable global energy future.
