India Emerges as Global Transformation Hub for Fortune 500 Firms

India is fast becoming the transformation hub for the world’s largest corporations, with an increasing number of Fortune 500 companies establishing their Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in the country. According to a new report by consulting firm ANSR, 35% (174) of the global Fortune 500 firms now operate their GCCs in India as of June 2025.

Steady Growth in GCC Presence

The presence of Fortune 500 GCCs in India has seen a sharp rise over the last decade, climbing from 22% in 2015 to 28% in 2020 and now 35% in 2025. The growth underscores the growing confidence of global corporations in India’s skilled talent pool. Over 67% of Fortune Global 30 companies also have GCCs here, collectively operating more than 390 centres and employing over 950,000 professionals nationwide.

Big Names Choose India

Industry giants such as Walmart, Amazon, UnitedHealth, JP Morgan Chase, UPS, FedEx, Boeing, ABB, and Qualcomm are among the companies leveraging India’s talent and technology ecosystem. Other leading GCC destinations include Poland, Romania, the Philippines, and Mexico.

GCCs as Strategic Nerve Centres

“Indian GCCs now function as second headquarters,” the report highlights, with senior leaders based in India influencing and shaping global strategies. Bengaluru and Hyderabad dominate the GCC landscape, hosting over 200 centres and employing more than 560,000 professionals.

The sectoral spread is broad, led by BFSI (21%), Retail/CPG (14%), Healthcare (12%), and Automotive (11%). US and German companies lead the pack, with a growing presence of APAC players, including Japanese firms.

Entering the ‘GCC 8.0’ Era

India’s GCCs have evolved far beyond support functions, transitioning into AI-native, innovation-led hubs. “These centres are scaling innovation, creating IP, and driving enterprise-wide, real-time decisions as digital twins of their headquarters,” noted Vikram Ahuja, Co-Founder of ANSR and CEO of 1Wrk.

Gaurav Vasu, Founder and CEO of UnearthInsight, added that continuous talent upskilling will ensure GCCs enable parent companies to become AI-first, scalable, and profitable enterprises. As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, Indian GCCs are also building Centres of Excellence in AI, analytics, cybersecurity, and digital engineering, accelerating R&D, product innovation, and IP creation.
