JSW Energy Targets 30 GW by 2030

In a bold shift reflecting its long-term clean energy vision, JSW Energy has revised its 2030 power generation capacity target to 30 GW, up from the earlier 20 GW. As of the end of FY25, the company’s installed capacity rose from 10.8 GW to 12.2 GW, signaling strong progress on its growth path.

18 GW Pipeline: Renewables Take the Lead

Central to this expanded goal is an 18 GW project pipeline, with a sharp focus on renewables. Notably, only 3.2 GW will be sourced from thermal projects, while the remaining capacity will be generated through solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. “The revision of the target is not just about scaling up, but also about transforming our portfolio,” an executive at JSW Energy emphasized.

Strategy 3.0: A New Growth Blueprint Coming Soon

JSW Energy is preparing to unveil Strategy 3.0 in the upcoming quarter—a document that will lay out its roadmap to meet the 30 GW target and go beyond the ₹1.15 trillion investment outlined under Strategy 2.0 in May 2023.

So far, under Strategy 2.0, JSW has invested:

  • ₹17,000 crore in organic projects
  • ₹29,000 crore in strategic acquisitions, including KSK Mahanadi and O2 Power’s renewable assets

The next phase will significantly surpass these figures, fueled by both scale and green innovation.

Selective Thermal Investment: Salboni Project Moves Forward

While renewables dominate JSW’s roadmap, the company is selectively investing in thermal power. A prime example is the ₹16,000 crore Salboni Thermal Power Plant in West Bengal. The greenfield project will feature two 800 MW units.

Looking Ahead: A Green Future Anchored in Innovation

By raising its 2030 target to 30 GW, JSW Energy is making a strong statement about its commitment to renewables, green hydrogen, battery storage, and next-generation technologies. As reported by univest.in, the upcoming Strategy 3.0 document will provide vital insights for investors and stakeholders tracking India’s clean energy transition.
