Kirloskar Brothers Ltd (KBL) has secured NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) accreditation for its Hydraulic Research Centre Pump Testing Laboratory (HRC PTL) located at the Kirloskarvadi plant in Sangli, Maharashtra.
With this achievement, KBL becomes the only pump manufacturing company in the world to receive NABL accreditation for its pump testing laboratory. The accreditation complies with ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the internationally recognised standard for testing and calibration laboratory competence.
The accreditation covers a wide range of rotodynamic pumps, including centrifugal, mixed flow, and axial pumps, evaluated across multiple performance parameters such as efficiency, reliability, and operational characteristics.
Strengthening Quality and Engineering Standards
The accreditation reinforces KBL’s commitment to engineering precision, quality assurance, and technological excellence. It also highlights the company’s advanced testing capabilities, which support the design and development of high-performance pumping solutions for critical sectors. The Hydraulic Research Centre Pump Testing Laboratory plays a key role in ensuring that KBL’s pumps meet international performance benchmarks, helping customers access reliable and certified equipment.
Leadership Perspective on the Achievement
Sanjay Kirloskar, Chairman and Managing Director of Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, emphasized “The NABL accreditation is a testament to the relentless pursuit of quality and precision by our engineering teams at Kirloskarvadi. As India accelerates its infrastructure ambitions in energy, water management, irrigation, and urban development, we are proud to offer testing capabilities that meet the highest global standards. This marks another step forward for quality-driven engineering made in India.”
Global Recognition Through NABL and ILAC Framework
The NABL accreditation provides independent validation of KBL’s pump performance data, ensuring credibility and transparency in testing results. NABL is a signatory to the ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) Mutual Recognition Arrangement, which means that test results from NABL-accredited laboratories are recognised in more than 100 countries worldwide. The global recognition simplifies procurement processes, particularly for government and regulated projects, as it eliminates the need for additional third-party retesting.
Growing Opportunities in the Pump Market
The accreditation also positions Kirloskar Brothers Ltd advantageously in the expanding global and domestic pump markets. According to industry estimates, the Indian pump market was valued at approximately $2.90 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to $4.14 billion by 2030, registering a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.12%.
At the same time, global buyers are increasingly seeking certified suppliers and adopting China+1 sourcing strategies to diversify supply chains. In this context, KBL’s status as the only pump manufacturer with NABL-accredited testing capabilities provides a strong competitive advantage for both domestic and international contracts.
Enhancing Credibility and Customer Confidence
By achieving NABL accreditation, KBL strengthens its credibility in pump testing and quality assurance. The recognition aligns the company with stringent international standards, further reinforcing its reputation for delivering advanced, reliable pumping solutions. As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, the milestone supports KBL’s broader mission to provide world-class pumping technologies that address infrastructure, water management, and industrial needs across global markets.
