L&T Bags Framework Contract for Two GW Offshore Wind Project

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) concluded a Framework Cooperation Agreement (FCA) with Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT for its ambitious 2 GW offshore wind programme. Executed in consortium with Hitachi Energy, the agreement marks a significant milestone in Europe’s offshore renewable energy expansion and further strengthens L&T’s global presence in clean energy infrastructure.

Framework Agreement Covers Multiple Offshore Wind Projects

Under the agreement, the L&T–Hitachi Energy consortium secured a framework covering six offshore transmission projects, along with opportunities for future developments under TenneT’s large-scale 2 GW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) programme. The initiative is designed to accelerate the integration of offshore renewable energy into Europe’s electricity grid while supporting the continent’s transition toward a low-carbon and sustainable energy system.

Four Major Projects Across the Netherlands and Germany

As part of the programme, the consortium will continue work on two ongoing offshore transmission projects in the Netherlands:

Nederwiek 1

In addition, the consortium will begin executing two new projects:

Nederwiek 3 (Netherlands)

LanWin 5 (Germany)

Together, these projects will deliver a combined transmission capacity of 8 GW operating at 525 kV, enabling efficient transfer of renewable electricity generated from offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the onshore power grids of the Netherlands and Germany.

L&T to Deliver Offshore Converter Platforms

Under the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) scope, L&T will design and construct the offshore converter platforms and associated infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hitachi Energy will supply its advanced HVDC Light® technology, enabling efficient high-voltage direct current power conversion and long-distance electricity transmission. The combination of L&T’s offshore engineering expertise and Hitachi Energy’s advanced transmission technology is expected to deliver reliable and efficient offshore grid infrastructure for Europe’s growing renewable energy sector.
