L&T Inaugurates First Locally Fabricated Electrolyser at Green Hydrogen Facility in Hazira

Larsen and Toubro has started operations of its inaugural domestically produced hydrogen electrolyser at the green hydrogen facility in Hazira, Gujarat. This marks the entry of L&T Electrolyser Ltd into the realm of domestic electrolyser production. Hydrogen is generated through the electrolysis of H2O (water) into two components – hydrogen and oxygen – through an electrical process known as electrolysis. This process necessitates electrolysers, and when powered by renewable energy sources, it yields green hydrogen, a fuel devoid of greenhouse emissions.

L&T Electrolysers, a newly established division of Larsen and Toubro, specializes in the manufacturing of pressurized alkaline electrolysers utilizing technology from McPhy Energy in France. The company aims to capitalize on its forthcoming giga-scale Hazira facility to address the increasing demand for green hydrogen. It intends to optimize product localization through an augmented local supply chain and automation to ensure competitiveness in costs.

As reported by CNBC TV 18, with a rated power capacity of 1 MW, expandable to 2 MW, the electrolyzer has the capability to generate 200 Nm3/Hr of hydrogen. It comes with two stacks and an electrolyzer processing unit ML-400, providing remarkable flexibility and thermal stability.
