Amid expanding trade, investment, and co-production partnerships between India and Russia, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov is expected to visit India next week. The visit aims to further strengthen the India–Russia Economic Cooperation Programme (ECP) and deepen bilateral economic engagement.

This development comes at a time when supplies of crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and fertilisers from Russia to India have increased, particularly in the context of disruptions and geopolitical tensions arising from the West Asia crisis.

High-Level Talks with External Affairs Minister

During his visit, Manturov will hold discussions with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. The meeting will build on the outcomes of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India in December, when the two countries held the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit.

Furthermore, the discussions will help prepare the groundwork for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Moscow for the next annual bilateral summit. Officials expect the visit to advance strategic economic cooperation and identify new areas for collaboration.

Economic Cooperation Programme Targets $100 Billion Trade

A key focus of the talks will be the Economic Cooperation Programme (ECP) launched during the 23rd India–Russia Summit. The initiative aims to increase bilateral trade to $100 billion within five years, up from approximately $70 billion recorded last year.

Through this programme, both countries seek to diversify trade, enhance investment flows, and expand collaboration across key industries.

Agreements Signed Across Multiple Strategic Sectors

As reported by energy.economictimes, during the previous summit, India and Russia signed several agreements designed to strengthen economic ties and improve sectoral cooperation. These agreements covered areas such as:

  • Mobility of the Indian workforce to Russia
  • Fertiliser supply and cooperation
  • Food safety standards and agricultural trade
  • Shipping and maritime logistics

In addition, both countries agreed to work together to explore and develop critical mineral resources, recognising their growing importance in advanced manufacturing, energy transition technologies, and strategic industries.

Expanding Strategic Economic Engagement

As India and Russia continue to expand their economic relationship, the upcoming visit is expected to accelerate cooperation in energy, critical minerals, logistics, and industrial partnerships. The engagement also reflects the broader effort by both nations to strengthen long-term economic resilience and diversify global supply chains.

Ultimately, Manturov’s visit is likely to play a key role in advancing India–Russia trade relations and preparing the agenda for the next annual summit between the two countries.
