The ministry of mines, in collaboration with Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, Council on Energy, Environment and Water, and the Indian Institute of Sustainable Development, is getting ready to host the ‘Critical Minerals Summit: Enhancing Beneficiation and Processing Capabilities’ on April 29-30, 2024.
The summit is designed to foster cooperation, exchange of knowledge, and innovation within the critical mineral beneficiation and processing sectors. As India continues its rapid economic expansion and pursues aggressive clean energy goals, establishing a reliable domestic supply of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) becomes increasingly vital for critical technologies such as renewable energy systems and electric vehicles.
The summit will gather a varied group of participants, including industry veterans, emerging start-ups, governmental bodies, scientists, academics, and policy specialists. It aims to spur discussions and workshops on a range of key issues, such as advancements in mineral auctions, policy incentives to bolster the CRM ecosystem, and the promotion of eco-friendly solutions.
As reported by DD NEWS, a key feature of the summit will be the emphasis on eight essential minerals: Glauconite (potash), lithium – rare earth elements (laterite), chromium, platinum group, graphite, tungsten in association with graphite, rare earths, and vanadium in association with graphite. Technical discussions focusing on these minerals will provide vital avenues for cooperation and information sharing among enterprises.
