NTPC REL Signs Deal with SECI to Supply 70,000 MTPA Green Ammonia

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), signed a Green Ammonia Purchase Agreement (GAPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI). The agreement was executed on 30 March 2026 and forms part of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Scheme under the Government of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission. The development represents another step forward in India’s efforts to scale up green hydrogen and green ammonia production as part of its clean energy transition.

70,000 MTPA Green Ammonia Supply Commitment

NTPC REL will supply 70,000 metric tons per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia to Krishna Phoschem Limited, located in Meghnagar, Madhya Pradesh. SECI will act as the intermediary procurer, facilitating the supply between NTPC REL and the end user. This arrangement supports the government’s strategy of building a structured market for green hydrogen derivatives such as green ammonia.

Supporting India’s Decarbonisation Goals

The agreement marks an important milestone in NGEL’s growing green hydrogen and green ammonia portfolio. By supplying green ammonia to the fertiliser and chemical sector, the project will help reduce dependence on fossil-fuel-based ammonia production, which is traditionally carbon-intensive. At the same time, the initiative aligns with India’s broader objective of accelerating industrial decarbonisation and promoting clean energy adoption across key sectors.

The project also reinforces NTPC Green Energy’s commitment to supporting the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to position India as a global hub for green hydrogen production, utilisation, and export.
