Persistent Systems, which is into digital engineering and enterprise modernization, announced its achievement of carbon neutrality for Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions) across its worldwide operations for the fiscal year 2023-2024, accomplishing the goal a year ahead of schedule.
The milestone highlights the company’s dedication to sustainability and supports global initiatives aimed at limiting climate change to 1.5°C and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The carbon management strategy at Persistent focuses on enhancing energy efficiency through investments in renewable energy and energy-efficient infrastructure. The initiatives have received certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
The company has made significant strides in adopting renewable energy and managing resources, resulting in a 42 percent reduction in emissions, bolstered by two windmills (2.1 MW each) and a two MW solar rooftop installation.
Currently, thirty-nine percent of Persistent’s energy consumption comes from renewable sources globally, with India leading at 44 percent. Moreover, sixteen percent of the company’s renewable energy requirements are satisfied through self-generated Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from its windmills.
Persistent has also procured International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) to cover 45 percent of its leased and overseas facilities. In line with its sustainability commitment, the company boasts a 99 percent recycling rate for waste generated across its operations.
As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, the company has planted 121,035 trees to aid carbon sequestration and has implemented systems to reuse 28.3 percent of treated wastewater on its owned campuses.
