Reliance Industries Announces Green Transition and Expansion Plans

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has announced an ambitious plan to transform the company’s Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C) business into a sustainable, green, circular, and consumer-integrated enterprise. This transformation is guided by three key pillars.

RIL aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2035. To accomplish this, the company is accelerating its efforts in manufacturing renewable energy platforms, including solar, wind, batteries, hydrogen, and bio-energy. The aim is to generate continuous and sustainable electricity, not only to meet RIL’s internal needs but also to contribute to the growing energy demands of Indian consumers.

RIL is focusing on circularity and consumer integration initiatives. This involves scaling up chemical recycling technology to produce environmentally friendly, application-specific products targeting high-value market segments. RIL is undergoing transformations at its Jamnagar refinery to become a chemicals and materials feedstock production manufacturer. The brand has started producing specialised halo-butyl rubber grades and is in the process of commissioning a new purified isophthalic acid plant.
