Tata Chemicals Mithapur launched Suraksha Gurukul, a dedicated Safety Training Centre designed to strengthen safety skills among employees, contractors, visitors and drivers. Vikrant Deoras, Site and Manufacturing Head, Tata Chemicals Mithapur, inaugurated the centre in the presence of senior leadership, department heads and employees. Developed over two years, the centre combines digital learning, simulation-based training, practical demonstrations and competency assessments with Tata Chemicals’ Golden Safety Rules. The facility aims to provide participants with practical, site-specific training that can help them identify hazards and adopt safer work practices.
Advanced Simulators Strengthen Driver Safety
One of the key features of Suraksha Gurukul is its vehicle driving simulation facility. The simulators allow drivers to practise different road and driving conditions in a controlled environment before entering operational areas. The training focuses on driver competency, hazard identification, situational awareness and defensive driving. Consequently, participants can gain practical experience in handling potential risks without being exposed to real-world operational hazards during training.
VR Training Brings Workplace Hazards to Life
The centre also uses virtual reality (VR) technology to deliver immersive safety training. Employees and other participants can experience simulated scenarios covering areas such as working at height, fire safety and emergency preparedness. Tata Chemicals has digitally recreated plant locations and operational activities at the Mithapur site. This site-specific approach allows participants to understand safety requirements in environments that closely reflect their actual workplace.
Safety Exhibition Gallery Supports Practical Learning
Suraksha Gurukul also features a Safety Exhibition Gallery equipped with safety equipment models, demonstrations, learning displays and industry best practices.
The training programme follows a structured learning journey that includes:

As we continue our journey towards Zero Harm, the centre will support a stronger and more proactive safety culture at the Mithapur site.” The centre was developed with support from the Safety, Civil, Electrical and Plant teams at the Mithapur facility. As per the press release, through Suraksha Gurukul, Tata Chemicals Mithapur is further strengthening its safety capabilities by combining technology, practical training and site-specific learning. The initiative forms part of the company’s ongoing efforts to build a proactive safety culture and advance its Zero Harm journey.
