Transition Industries signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) with Bonatti for the development of the Pacifico Mexinol project in Sinaloa, Mexico. The landmark collaboration aims to establish the world’s largest standalone ultra-low carbon chemical production facility. The plant will have the capacity to produce 6,130 tonnes of methanol per day.

Bonatti to Lead Critical Infrastructure Development

Under the HoA, Bonatti will oversee detailed engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), as well as pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities for key infrastructure. These include upgrading port facilities and the jetty at the Terminal Transoceánica de Topolobampo. The terminal will serve as the hub for all methanol loading operations for export. Additionally, Bonatti will manage the installation of methanol transfer and vapour recovery pipelines. It will also install dual fibre-optic cables linking the main methanol process plant with the Mexinol port site.

Focus on Sustainability: Large-Scale Water Reuse System

In a major sustainability initiative, Bonatti will also construct a closed-loop water pipeline system connecting the site to JAPAMA oxidation pools. This system will treat and recycle municipal wastewater, creating one of the largest industrial water reuse applications globally. The project will rely on reclaimed water instead of freshwater sources. This approach will protect the Bay of Ohuira and significantly reduce environmental impact.

Commitment to Community and Environmental Stewardship

Balmore Brito, Project Director for Pacifico Mexinol at Transition Industries, emphasized, “We are proud to have Bonatti, a world leader in pipeline EPCs, as part of our execution team. Their international expertise, combined with strong local experience in Ahome Municipality, will benefit both the project and surrounding communities. Bonatti shares our unwavering commitment to environmental and social sustainability.”

Gustavo Blejer, Bonatti’s Commercial Director for the Americas, added, “We are thrilled to be part of this flagship project, which marks a significant step toward decarbonization. This is a great opportunity to combine Bonatti’s global expertise with our local knowledge and contribute meaningfully to the development of Ahome, Sinaloa, and Mexico.”

Pacifico Mexinol: A Global Benchmark for Low-Carbon Methanol

The Pacifico Mexinol facility will begin operations in 2029. Once operational, it will produce 3,50,000 tons of green methanol and 1.8 million tons of blue methanol annually. The project will derive blue methanol from natural gas using integrated carbon capture technology. This approach reinforces its role in advancing decarbonization and energy transition.

As reported by msn.com, Transition Industries is working closely with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group. The collaboration aims to support the project’s financing and sustainability goals.
