Vedanta Oil and Gas Limited, a private oil and gas producer in India, collaborated with Beicip-Franlab India Private Limited, a global subsurface and reservoir solutions provider, to accelerate exploration, resource maturation and production growth across its Northeast India portfolio. The integrated seismic and subsurface programme will cover nine Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) blocks and one Discovered Small Field (DSF) block. By bringing exploration, resource evaluation and development planning under a unified technical framework, the partnership aims to identify new drilling opportunities and unlock additional value from existing discoveries and producing assets.
Advanced Subsurface Studies to Identify Drilling Opportunities
As part of the engagement, Beicip-Franlab will conduct a comprehensive range of technical studies across priority assets. These will include seismic interpretation, geological and reservoir studies, prospect ranking, resource assessment and field development planning. The programme will cover both new and existing fields, including Hazarigaon and Rudra in Northeast India. Consequently, the integrated approach is expected to improve resource visibility and help identify high-potential prospects for further exploration and development.
Up to 300 MMboe of Additional Resource Potential
The programme has the potential to unlock up to 300 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) of additional resources and reserves. At the same time, it will support opportunities to enhance production from existing fields. Through integrated subsurface evaluation and development planning, Vedanta Oil & Gas and Beicip-Franlab aim to accelerate appraisal and field development decisions. Moreover, the programme will establish a clearer roadmap for progressing opportunities from exploration to production.
Vedanta Targets Greater Northeast Hydrocarbon Potential
Jim Johnny Gast, Interim CEO and Whole Time Director, Vedanta Oil and Gas Limited, said the Northeast represents a significant source of untapped hydrocarbon potential and remains a key pillar of the company’s growth strategy. He added that the partnership will combine advanced subsurface expertise with integrated technical capabilities to accelerate prospect maturation, strengthen the exploration portfolio and unlock greater value from existing assets. According to Vedanta, the programme will help create a robust pipeline of drill-ready opportunities while supporting the company’s efforts to increase domestic energy production and contribute to India’s energy security.
Beicip-Franlab to Support Exploration-to-Development Strategy
Amit Singh, Managing Director, Beicip-Franlab India, said Vedanta Oil & Gas has a highly prospective portfolio in Northeast India and that the partnership aims to convert subsurface potential into tangible development opportunities. Through integrated subsurface evaluations, resource characterisation and field development planning, Beicip-Franlab will support the creation of a pipeline of drill-ready prospects. Furthermore, the company aims to improve resource visibility and identify high-impact opportunities that can contribute to sustainable production growth. The technical programme will provide decision-ready insights and strategic direction, helping Vedanta progress discoveries and prospects more efficiently from exploration through development.
Strengthening India’s Domestic Energy Security
The opportunities identified through the programme will subsequently undergo Vedanta Oil & Gas’ technical assurance and exploration-to-development processes. The Northeast remains a critical component of Vedanta Oil & Gas’ growth strategy. Therefore, the company plans to deepen exploration activity and unlock the region’s hydrocarbon potential. As per the press release, by accelerating the discovery, development and monetisation of indigenous oil and gas resources, Vedanta Oil & Gas aims to increase domestic energy production, strengthen supply security and contribute to India’s long-term energy security.
