Vipul Organics Limited, a specialty chemicals company operating in pigments and dyes, announced that its membrane business, ADIMEM Technologies, has acquired an advanced industrial membrane sheet manufacturing platform from Aquaporin, a Danish membrane technology company. ADIMEM secured the platform through a competitive bidding process and will relocate the manufacturing infrastructure from Aquaporin’s facility in Denmark to its manufacturing plant in Sayakha, Gujarat. Consequently, the acquisition marks a significant step in ADIMEM’s strategy to strengthen its membrane manufacturing capabilities in India.
Advanced Casting and Coating Infrastructure
The acquired platform includes precision membrane casting, coating and drying infrastructure, along with associated process-control and manufacturing systems. Aquaporin previously used the same production-grade platform for its own membrane development and manufacturing activities. For advanced Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Nanofiltration (NF) membranes, consistent performance depends not only on membrane chemistry but also on precise and repeatable control of critical manufacturing parameters. Therefore, the acquisition gives ADIMEM access to proven production infrastructure that could otherwise take years to develop and scale internally.
ADIMEM Expands End-to-End Membrane Capabilities
ADIMEM Technologies already operates as a commercial membrane business with capabilities covering indigenous membrane R&D, product development, element manufacturing, quality control, performance testing and application engineering. With the new platform, the company will significantly enhance its in-house manufacturing capabilities. In particular, advanced casting and coating infrastructure will help ADIMEM improve its production scale, process reliability and manufacturing precision. Moreover, the acquisition supports the company’s strategy of vertically integrating the membrane value chain in India, from research and development through manufacturing and application engineering.
Supporting India’s Membrane Technology Ecosystem
“This acquisition is an important step in our vision of building a globally competitive membrane technology business from India,” said Vipul P. Shah, Managing Director, Vipul Organics Limited. He added that securing the platform through a competitive bidding process and bringing proven manufacturing infrastructure from a respected Danish membrane technology company to Sayakha will strengthen ADIMEM’s vertical integration and support the Make in India vision.
Precision Manufacturing to Drive Membrane Performance
According to Dr. Vatsal Shah, who leads ADIMEM Technologies, membrane performance depends significantly on the precision of casting, coating and drying processes, in addition to membrane chemistry. The newly acquired platform will therefore complement ADIMEM’s existing indigenous R&D, element manufacturing, testing and application engineering capabilities. As a result, the company aims to strengthen its ability to develop and manufacture advanced RO and NF membranes in India for domestic and global markets.
Applications Across Water Treatment and Process Separation
The strengthened manufacturing platform will support ADIMEM’s portfolio across RO, NF, Ultrafiltration (UF), Microfiltration (MF) and Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technologies.
These membrane solutions serve a wide range of applications, including:
Industrial water treatment
Wastewater recycling
Desalination
Specialised process separations
Furthermore, the expanded capabilities reinforce Vipul Organics’ strategy of entering and growing in high-technology and sustainability-driven businesses.
Building a Globally Competitive Membrane Business
By combining proven membrane manufacturing infrastructure with its existing R&D, testing and application capabilities, ADIMEM Technologies is strengthening its position in India’s advanced membrane technology sector. As per the press release, the acquisition also supports the company’s broader objective of developing high-performance membrane solutions for water treatment, resource recovery and specialised industrial applications, while creating a stronger platform for serving both Indian and international markets.
