Waaree to Expand Lithium Battery Plant to 20 GWh and Electrolyzer Capacity to 1 GW

Waaree Energies Ltd is set to significantly scale up production at its upcoming energy storage, electrolyser, and inverter manufacturing facilities, reinforcing its position in India’s clean energy sector.

Lithium-Ion Battery Facility Expansion

The company’s board of directors approved a substantial increase in the production capacity of its upcoming lithium-ion advanced chemistry storage cell and battery energy storage systems (BESS) facility—from 3.5 GWh to 20 GWh. Waaree Energy Storage Solutions, the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, will execute the expansion and require an additional capital expenditure of ₹8,000 crore.

Electrolyser Production Capacity Boost

Waaree will also expand its annual electrolyser production capacity from 300 MW to 1,000 MW, supported by an additional capex of ₹125 crore. This move aligns with the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the green hydrogen value chain.

Inverter Manufacturing Increase

The board has further approved increasing inverter manufacturing capacity from 3 GW to 4 GW, allocating an additional capital outlay of about INR 50 crore to meet growing domestic and international demand for high-efficiency inverters.

Recent Developments: Solar Module Facility

As reported by pv-magazine-india.com, in addition to these expansion plans, Waaree has recently commissioned a 950 MW solar module manufacturing facility at its factory in Chikli Taluka, Navsari district, Gujarat. The facility strengthens the company’s integrated clean energy ecosystem, combining solar, storage, and hydrogen solutions.
