The three-day India Bioenergy & Tech Expo (IBET) 2026 concluded with investment commitments and MoUs worth approximately ₹15,000 crore, based on initial estimates. The strong investment interest highlights the growing momentum in India’s bioenergy sector while strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position as an emerging hub for green energy investments.

Organised by the Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE) in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), the expo brought together policymakers, investors, technology companies, entrepreneurs and industry experts. The event explored opportunities across key segments, including compressed biogas (CBG), ethanol, biomass, biodiesel, waste-to-energy, bio-mobility, biomaterials and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Focus on Farmers and Rural Bioenergy

A key highlight of the final day was the special session, “Fuelling Green Energy and Income Opportunities for Farmers.” Policymakers, industry leaders, technology providers and other stakeholders discussed ways to convert agricultural residues into clean energy while creating additional income opportunities for farmers. The discussions also highlighted the need to strengthen feedstock supply chains, improve farmer-industry partnerships and develop viable rural business models around bioenergy.

Uttar Pradesh Strengthens Bioenergy Ambitions

During the first two days, participants discussed India’s bioenergy roadmap, Uttar Pradesh’s growing role as an investment destination and the potential of CBG to transform agricultural waste into economic value. A.K. Sharma, Minister for Energy & Additional Sources of Energy, Government of Uttar Pradesh; Surya Pratap Shahi, Minister for Agriculture, Government of Uttar Pradesh; and Kailash Singh Rajput, Minister of State for Energy and Additional Sources of Energy, Government of Uttar Pradesh, participated in the three-day event along with senior Central and State Government officials. Sharma highlighted the potential of CBG to increase farmers’ incomes, generate rural employment and convert agricultural waste into productive economic assets. The Uttar Pradesh government also reiterated its support for entrepreneurs investing in the state’s bioenergy sector. Shahi noted that approximately ₹3,500 crore has already been invested in Uttar Pradesh’s CBG sector, The state could see another 70–80 CBG facilities in the coming period.

Bioenergy Moves Towards Scalable Investment

Sanjay Ganjoo, Director General, IFGE, said India’s bioenergy opportunity is increasingly moving from policy ambition towards large-scale investment and enterprise development. He emphasised that the next phase will require stronger feedstock supply chains, greater farmer participation, scalable projects and bankable business models. With appropriate policy support, technology and industry participation, bioenergy can simultaneously strengthen energy security, reduce waste, create rural employment and increase farmers’ incomes.

IBET 2026 Signals Strong Industry Momentum

The conclusion of IBET 2026 marks an important milestone for India’s growing bioenergy ecosystem. In particular, the scale of investment commitments demonstrates rising confidence in bioenergy as a strategic component of India’s clean-energy transition. As per the press release, as Uttar Pradesh strengthens its bioenergy infrastructure and attracts new investments, the sector could play an increasingly important role in supporting rural economic development, waste management, energy security and India’s broader green-energy ambitions.
