Jabil Inc., a global player in engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing solutions, is setting up a ₹1,000 crore silicon photonics manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The facility will produce photonics transceivers, essential components for AI, telecom, IoT, and smart infrastructure applications.

Advanced Manufacturing and Government Collaboration

In collaboration with the Gujarat government, Jabil will initially explore establishing a post-wafer fabrication silicon photonics unit. The facility will integrate advanced co-packaged optics technology, enhancing India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Economic Growth

The investment will boost Gujarat’s position as a semiconductor hub. Jabil formalized its commitment by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the Gujarat Semiconnect summit in Gandhinagar.

Commitment to India’s Photonics Industry

“This MoU underscores our commitment to supporting India’s aspirations in silicon photonics. We look forward to working with the Gujarat government and other stakeholders to unlock the full potential of semiconductors in photonics,” said Matt Crowley, Executive Vice President, Global Business Unit, Jabil.

Jabil’s Expertise in Photonics

With over a decade of experience in the photonics sector, Jabil specializes in designing and manufacturing photonic devices, amplifiers, transceivers, and laser packages. The company also produces optical networking products such as ROADMs and optical switches. By offering both prototyping and large-scale manufacturing, Jabil accelerates time to market for photonics solutions in telecommunications, data communications, and AI applications.

As reported by newsonprojects.com, the investment further strengthens India’s position in semiconductor manufacturing, supporting the country’s vision for technological self-reliance.
