Gujarat Energy Ltd (GEL), formerly known as Gujarat Gas Ltd, has signed a ten-year agreement with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to procure up to four million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Scheduled to begin in 2028, the agreement aims to strengthen Gujarat Energy’s long-term gas sourcing strategy and ensure reliable supplies to its growing customer base.
Four Million Tonnes of LNG Over 10 Years
Gujarat Energy will procure LNG from the international gas portfolio of XRG, ADNOC’s international investment company. Notably, this marks the first procurement of LNG from XRG’s international portfolio and represents ADNOC’s fifth LNG supply agreement in India, according to the company’s statement.
The contract provides for the supply of up to 4 million tonnes of LNG over 10 years, with prices linked to the Henry Hub index, as disclosed by Gujarat Energy in its stock exchange filing. This translates into a potential average supply of up to 400,000 tonnes annually, although actual volumes will depend on the contractual arrangements.
ADNOC Expands Global LNG Marketing Operations
The agreement will be executed through ADNOC’s global LNG marketing and trading platform, launched in Abu Dhabi Global Market in July 2026. The platform aims to market 47 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG beyond 2030.
Rashid Al Mazrouei, Chief Marketing and Origination Officer (LNG), said the partnership strengthens ADNOC’s long-standing energy relationship with India. He added that the deal represents the first sale of LNG from XRG’s international portfolio, reinforcing ADNOC’s commitment to providing reliable, long-term LNG supplies.
Strengthening Gujarat Energy’s Gas Supply Security
For Gujarat Energy, the agreement is expected to improve supply security and support its expanding customer base across industrial, commercial, domestic and automotive segments. Managing Director Avantika Singh Aulakh highlighted the importance of natural gas in India’s transition towards cleaner energy. She noted that natural gas serves as a lower-carbon energy option that improves industrial efficiency, provides households with a safer cooking fuel and supports the growth of cleaner transportation.
Expanding Presence Across the Natural Gas Value Chain
Gujarat Energy operates across multiple segments of the natural gas value chain, including gas trading, city gas distribution, exploration and production, power generation and LNG import infrastructure. Its city gas distribution network currently covers 44 districts across six states. As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, the agreement will strengthen ADNOC’s LNG marketing presence in India while expanding the role of XRG’s international portfolio in meeting growing energy demand across Asian markets.
