Waaree to Invest Rs. 8,175 Crore in Battery Gigafactory in Andhra Pradesh

Waaree Energies announced plans to establish India’s largest integrated lithium-ion battery gigafactory in Andhra Pradesh. The company will invest ₹8,175 crore in the greenfield project, reinforcing India’s push toward energy storage and clean energy self-reliance. The facility will come up at Rambilli in Anakapalli district and is expected to generate around 3,000 direct jobs, significantly boosting local employment and industrial growth.

16 GWh Capacity with End-to-End Battery Manufacturing

The upcoming gigafactory will have a total capacity of 16 GWh. Importantly, it will cover the complete lithium-ion battery value chain, including:

*Advanced cell manufacturing

*Battery pack assembly

*Large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) production

By integrating the entire production ecosystem under one roof, Waaree aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on imported battery technologies.

State-Level Backing and Strategic Approval

The project has already secured in-principle approval from the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. This approval signals strong policy support and underscores Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to emerge as a major clean energy and advanced manufacturing hub.

Strengthening India’s Energy Storage Ecosystem

With India rapidly expanding its renewable energy capacity, large-scale energy storage solutions have become critical for grid stability and energy security. Waaree’s 16 GWh battery gigafactory will support the growing demand for storage in solar, wind, electric mobility, and industrial applications.

Moreover, by localizing lithium-ion cell and battery manufacturing, the project aligns with national goals to enhance domestic value addition, strengthen supply chains, and build technological self-reliance in the clean energy sector. As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, overall, the ₹8,175 crore investment positions Waaree Energies at the forefront of India’s battery manufacturing and energy storage revolution.
