ACME Group is set to establish a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia facility at the Tata Steel Special Economic Zone (Tata SEZ) in Gopalpur, Odisha. The project aims to produce 4,00,000 tons of green ammonia annually by 2029, marking a significant step in India’s clean energy transition.
Pioneering Green Hydrogen in Eastern India
ACME will establish the region’s first green hydrogen project, generating over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, boosting the local economy, and supporting India’s push toward sustainable industrialization. “This project marks a major milestone in our mission to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors,” said Anil Kumar Taparia, Chief Operating Officer, ACME Green Hydrogen SBU. “It also accelerates India’s green transition.”
Strategic Partnership with Japan’s IHI Corporation
ACME has partnered with Japan’s IHI Corporation. Starting in 2029, IHI will procure the entire 400,000 tonnes of green ammonia produced at the Gopalpur facility. This international collaboration underscores the global demand for clean fuels and India’s growing role in the green hydrogen economy.
Official Launch During Odisha Investment Drive
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the ceremony for five industrial projects at Tata SEZ, where officials announced the initiative. The event highlights Odisha’s commitment to attracting investment in clean and high-tech industries.
Growing Renewable Energy Footprint
ACME Group, through its flagship company Acme Solar, continues to expand its clean energy portfolio. The company has already commissioned 1,200 MW of solar projects and recorded a turnover of ₹1,575 crore in FY25. It currently operates 2,705 MW of renewable capacity, with an additional 4,265 MW under construction.
Driving India’s Green Energy Future
With this new green ammonia facility, ACME is reinforcing its role as a key player in India’s energy transition. As reported by fortuneindia.com, the project supports the decarbonisation of heavy industries. It also positions Odisha as a new hub for green hydrogen innovation and exports.
